About Us

Superior Life Skills

Through group services, we teach social and life skills to children, youth and young adults with Autism, ADHD or simply those needing some additional support. It is important to us to provide these opportunities to children, youth and families across Northwestern Ontario, including those in smaller and isolated communities.

Superior Life Skills supports families through parent sessions, sharing information, and coaching in programs.

We support learning through the delivery of services within schools and the community.

Vision

Helping children, youth and young adults working towards becoming independent and active within their community.

Mission

We support individuals and their families in their right to learn and grow in the community. Our services strengthen independence, belonging and support while encouraging individual choice and opportunity.

Delivery of Services

Group services are delivered in both in person and virtual formats with typically 4-12 participants:

  • Scheduled in-person groups will be offered within the city of Thunder Bay. Please connect with us about receiving in-person services within Northwestern Ontario.

  • Virtual services will be offered through Google Meet open to all children & youth, however priority may be given to Northern Ontario participants

Katrena Brindley

Founder & Co-owner

Always enjoying being in the outdoors, I began my journey leading canoe trips and teaching leadership skills to children and youth. I have a mix of outdoor leadership and education training, in addition to graduating from Lakehead University with a BA in Indigenous Learning. I have always had a natural enthusiasm to help others grow their skills, but the true passion has been helping others increase their independence and life skills in their day to day lives. In the career setting, this has been through coaching, volunteer work and respite work with Wesway, and as an ABA Facilitator and School Based Intensive Treatment Clinical Lead.

Nearly 15 years ago I began developing social skills and life skills programming for individuals of varying needs and exceptionalities. A significant portion came through working in the autism field as an ABA Therapist with Child & Community Resources, running group services to children and youth with an ASD diagnosis.

I am trained and have experience with; PEERS School-Based and Teleconference, Children’s Friendship Training, Zones of Regulation, Leadership Training, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University. Following graduation, I moved to Winnipeg and began teaching in the Winnipeg School Division. Teaching soon led to entering the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis with Child & Community Resources. There, I discovered my passion for helping children and youth feel empowered to develop meaningful skills that enrich their lives.

An enthusiastic lifelong learner, my training and experience has a wide range. For over a decade, I have been developing and implementing programming to support many different learning goals. I am trained and have experience with delivering; PEERS, Children's Friendship Training, Sibshops, Triple P Stepping Stones, Secret Agent Society, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Mindfulness for Educators, and the Zones of Regulation.
